Enjoy the 2022 Morro Bay Winter Bird Festival
Slated for January 13-17, 2022, the Morro Bay Winter Bird Festival is back again, but this year with a few COVID-19 precautions. First off the Festival Bazaar, which is a large public inside event, will not be held this year, but look for it to return in 2023. And second, all attendees, leaders and volunteers must provide proof of vaccination in order to attend all other events.
That said the 25th festival will offer a plethora of field trips and excursions with expert birders. And a good number of these activities are wheelchair-accessible, including these fun activities.
- Meander Morro Bay Marina Field Trip
- Birding Las Cruzitas Ranch Field Trip
- Condor Recovery Birding Presentation
- Peregrine Falcons of Morro Rock Field Trip
- Wintering Birds at Cal Poly Pier Field Trip
- Build a Kestrel Box Class
- Meet the Raptors Presentation
- Easy Birding Field Trip
- Build a Blue Bird Box Class
- Shape & Structure of Bird Song Presentation
- Birding By Ear Workshop
There are also two keynote presentations that are wheelchair-accessible. On Saturday January 15 John Muir Laws will present “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Birders”, which offers tips on how to see more birds and relate to birding in a way that gets you out of the house, into the field. The next evening Ray Van Buskirk will speak about his life long love of birding and how he created a dream career around this hobby. Both presentations will take place at the Cuesta College Performing Arts Center
Finally the Twenty Fifth Anniversary Celebration will take place on Friday evening at the wheelchair-accessible Morro Bay Community Center. This festive event will also include a special side table presentation by Allis Markham.
