Yellowstone Closure Update
Updated May 28, 2023
As a result of flooding and massive road damage, Yellowstone National Park initially closed all entrances to the park on June 13, 2022. Although a good amount of the flood damage has been repaired, there is still more work to do. Additionally, due to a record snowfall this winter, some areas of the park will open later than usual. Here’s what you need to know about the Yellowstone closure if you’re planning to visit in 2023
Road Updates After Yellowstone Closure
The North Entrance in Gardiner, Montana, and the road between the North Entrance and Mammoth Hot Springs, which was initially closed after the flooding, is now open to vehicle traffic. Visitors are told to expect 30 minute delays this summer and fall due to ongoing flood repairs.
All of the other park roads have reopened.
Lodging & Dining Updates After Yellowstone Closure
After the oversnow season the Old Faithful Inn and Old Faithful Snow Lodge are now open.
The Mammoth Hotel is currently closed in order to repair flood damage to the wastewater treatment system. It is not expect to reopen before June 16, 2023. All reservations before that date will be cancelled and guests will receive a full refund. Guests with reservations after June 16, 2023 will be notified of the status of their reservations via e-mail. Guests who wish to cancel their reservations will receive a full refund.
There will be limited day lodge services in Mammoth until the hotel is reopened. The gift shop will be open, and prepackaged food will be available in the Map Room. Additionally, all day tours departing from Mammoth will be cancelled until the hotel reopens.
The 2023 opening dates for the remaining park hotels are listed below.
Canyon Lodge – May 19
Grant Lodge – May 26

There will be short traffic delays over the Yellowstone River Bridge until Fall 2026, due to bridge replacement.
Additionally, Norris Geyser Basin is closed due to heavy snow and dangerous conditions. A reopening date is not known at this time.
