Accessible Lodging Options with Trapeze Bars
I’m 65 and I recently developed cervical stenosis. I need a walker to get around my house and a scooter when I’m out and about. I haven’t traveled since I developed my disability, and now I’m thinking of taking a road trip with my girlfriend. At home I have a trapeze bar attached to the bed which allows me to get out of bed independently. I also need a roll-in shower, a shower chair, and toilet and shower grab bars. Do you know of any accessible lodging options that have these things. I want this to be a vacation for both my girlfriend and me, and I want to be as independent as possible.
Glad to hear that you are planning a trip. In regards to accessible lodging options, many properties have roll-in showers, grab bars and shower chairs. That said, properties with fewer than 50 rooms are not required to have roll-in showers in their accessible rooms, so I would definitely look at larger properties. And don’t just ask for an accessible room — make sure it has the access features you need.
As for trapeze bars, they are not very common — or even required under the ADAAG. That said, a lot of people have had success with transfer boards. I have seen a few private rentals that do have trapeze bars, and I’ve listed a them below.

Also, Las Vegas has several accessible lodging options that have ceiling track lifts so they might work for you, in lieu of trapeze bars. The high needs accessible rooms at Treasure Island and the Luxor feature ceiling track lifts in the bedroom and bathroom, while the Wynn Resort also has two double queen rooms with ceiling track lifts.
Happy travels!
