EU Accessible Air Travel Regulations Strengthened
Under EU regulations, airlines are required to provide disabled travelers with wheelchair assistance in airports, and assistance with boarding and disembarking the aircraft. As of December 1, 2014, the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has the full legal authority to insure that airlines comply with the regulations. Any airport or airline that fails to follow the regulations will get an enforcement order, which could lead to prosecution if the access issue is not resolved. It also gives the CAA the authority to fine the airlines, and in some cases to compensate passengers for mental distress.
