Juneyao Air Denies Boarding to Wheelchair-Users
Chinese budget airline Juneyao Air denied boarding to two wheelchair-users late last year, because they were not accompanied by able-bodied companions. Mr. Zhan and Mr. Sheng attempted to fly from Sanya on Hainan Island, to Dalian in Liaoning province, but they were informed that they couldn’t fly unaccompanied. Despite protests by the men, and their assurances that they had flown unaccompanied many times before, the airline cancelled the tickets and refunded the passenger’s money. In order to get home, the duo had to fly to Beijing on Air China, and then take a high speed train to Dalian. A suit was later filed against the airline in Shanghai court. The case was continued in February, to allow time for further discovery and evidence gathering.
