A visit to Tombstone doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. Granted, you can’t do everything for free in this slice of the wild west in Southern Arizona; but you can pare down expenses a bit by taking advantage of these fun — and accessible — Tombstone freebies.

• Stop in a the Tombstone Visitors Center at Fourth and Allen Streets for free maps and tourism information. And don’t be shy about asking for suggestions on free and low cost things to do in the area.
• Armed with your city map, set out on your own Tombstone walking tour. There are curb-cuts at every corner, and you can even roll out in the middle of some streets, as they’re blocked off to vehicle traffic.
• Stop by the Bird Cage Theater (www.tombstonebirdcage.com) for a primer on this former brothel and gentleman’s club. Although there is a charge for the official tour, the free preview is very informative.
• Tour the Tombstone Epitaph (www.tombstoneepitaph.com), which features a number of interpretive exhibits about how a newspaper was produced in the old west.

• Last but not least, pack a picnic lunch and enjoy it in the accessible picnic shelter at Tombstone City Park. Not only will you save a few bucks, but the shelter is located near one of the most accessible restrooms in the city.
