Wheelchair-Accessible Shore Excursions in St. Petersburg, Russia
I really want to visit St. Petersburg, Russia, and I figure the most accessible way to do that is on a cruise. I have no problem finding ships with accessible cabins, but it seems that they just don’t offer any accessible shore excursions. I know it’s not the most accessible place in the world, but I want to get off the ship and see as much as I can. Can you offer me any ideas or resources?
Access is sketchy in St. Petersburg, but Liberty Tours of Russia, now offers a variety of accessible tours. Tour offerings range from a general city tour or a tour of the Hermitage to a Russian museum tour, a tour of St. Peter’s and St. Paul’s Fortress and even a city myths and legends tour. All tours feature transportation in an accessible minibus with a folding ramp and tie-downs. Each vehicle can accommodate 10 passengers, including four wheelchair-users. A two person minimum is required for each tour, and the tour prices vary depending on the number of participants. These tours make ideal shore excursions; however if you’re planning an extended stay in St. Petersburg, then be sure to check out the Liberty Tours database of accessible hotels at www.libertytour.ru/.
