Desperately Seeking Bulkhead Seating
My elderly aunt needs wheelchair assistance from the car to the gate whenever she flies. She’s planning to fly from Dublin to visit me in Chicago, and she really needs a bulkhead seat. Unfortunately Aer Lingus told her that those seats are reserved for infants, despite the fact that she has a doctor’s note that states she needs this accommodation. How can I find out what airlines will give her the seating she requires?
Unfortunately there is no law that requires airlines to give disabled passengers bulkhead seats. Under the Air Carrier Access Act, bulkhead seats are only required for people with a fused leg and people who travel with service animals. Some airlines will give passengers with a mobility disability bulkhead seats, but to be honest, they change their policies often. It’s best to check with each airline directly to see if any can accommodate your aunt’s needs.
