DOT Releases Air Travel Accessibility Materials
The Department of Transportation (DOT) recently released a series of videos, brochures and tip sheets on topics that are often the subject of disability related airline complaints. These useful materials are available to airline employees and the traveling public, in an effort to educate everyone on their rights and responsibilities under the Air Carrier Access Act. Topics addressed include wheelchair assistance, service animals, seating accommodations, and the proper handling and stowage of mobility aids. The information is intended to supplement the disability-related training that airline employees receive, and to educate passengers with disabilities, so they will know what to expect when they fly. The DOT worked closely with advocacy groups, airlines, and airports to develop these resources. They are available at www.transportation.gov/airconsumer/disability-training. Additionally, all consumer materials prominently feature information about the DOT’s Disability Hotline (800-778-4838) on the back page.
