Although legally not required to track air travel accessibility complaints, European national enforcement bodies reported a dramatic rise in the 2012 and 2013 figures. In fact, in April 2014 the European Commission reported that air travel disability complaints rose by 148% in 2012, and even more in 2013.

In 2011, the total reported accessible air travel complaints stood at 111, with only one requiring legal enforcement. The 2012 figures rose to 275 complaints, including eight that required legal enforcement. And although the 2013 figures have yet to be tabulated, one national enforcement body alone reported receiving over 300 disability related complaints.

The most common disability related complaints included dissatisfaction with accessible seating options, lack of airport assistance, and inappropriate or insufficient equipment on the aircraft or at the airport.
