Glacier Point Road in Yosemite Closed in 2022
Glacier Point Road, which dates back to 1936, is slated to be completely closed in the spring of 2022, for some much needed repairs and upgrades. That means there will be no public access to this popular viewpoint in Yosemite National Park. The road will remain closed through the summer, and reopen in September 2022. The road will be open in 2023, but there will be 30-minute delays due to ongoing construction.
The project will include the following upgrades:
- Repave the road from Badger Pass to Glacier Point
- Repair the curves near the end of the road
- Improve the Clark Range pullout
- Repair the road west of Summit Meadow to prevent further settlement
- Pave the overflow parking at the Sentinel Dome trailhead
- Repair the McGurk Meadow trailhead parking area to increase safety
- Repave the Glacier Point parking lots
Since there will be no public access to Glacier Point in 2022, all special programs will be cancelled. This includes ranger presentations, the symphony, and the starry sky programs. All programs will resume in 2023.
