Looking for a Wheelchair Accessible Beach House
I’m looking for a wheelchair accessible beach house to rent on the east coast. There will be 11 of us — 7 adults and 4 children — and we’d like to stay for a week. My son uses a manual wheelchair, and he needs a bathroom with a roll-in shower. Do you have any suggestions?
Well you didn’t specify where on the east coast that you’d like to go, so I’m going to suggest North Carolina’s Crystal Coast — Emerald Isle to be more specific. Located on a barrier-island, it’s the perfect place for a beach vacation. And Shell Cove — a wheelchair-accessible beach house — sounds like it would be a good choice for your family.
This six-bedroom, seven-bathroom beachfront house features wide doorways and good pathway access. It includes a ground floor bathroom with a roll-in shower, a hand-held showerhead, toilet and shower grab bars and a portable shower chair. Several other pieces of equipment can be provided upon request, including an elevator, a floating beach chair, an overhead hoist system and a rolling shower chair. The home also has a sturdy five-foot wide ramp that offers direct access to the beach. The property is available through Emerald Isle Realty, and you can check out the rental listing at https://reservations.emeraldislerealty.com/properties/shell-cove.
