Mobi-Mats Installed on Lincoln City Beaches
The Oregon Coast just got a little more accessible for wheelchair-users and slow walkers, thanks to the recent installation of Mobi-Mats at three Lincoln City Beaches. These nonslip roll-up beach mats are six-and-a-half feet wide, and allow wheelchair-users and slow walkers access over sandy beaches. Instead of sinking into the sand, wheelchair-users can just roll over it on a Mobi-Mat. Four-hundred fifty feet of Mobi-Mats will be installed on three Lincoln city beaches from Memorial Day to Labor Day each year. They are available at the following beach access points.
Nelscott Beach Access
between 34th and 35th Streets off SW Anchor Ave.
Lincoln City, OR
D-River Wayside Beach Access
101 Highway 101
Lincoln City, OR
SW 51st Street Beach Access
861 SW 51st St.
Lincoln City, OR
Although all three areas include seasonal Mobi-Mats, there is limited parking at the SW 34th Street area. That said, there is a wheelchair-accessible spot there. Ample parking is available at the other two beach access areas.
“Accessibility has long been a priority in Lincoln City,” said Jeanne Sprague, Lincoln City Parks and Recreation director. “The addition of the Mobi-Mats and beach friendly wheelchairs extends an invitation to our beaches to everyone.”
Beach Wheelchairs
Additionally, two beach wheelchairs are available at the 51st Street location. They are located in a blue storage locker near the picnic shelter. They are each available to one person per-day, as they need to be sanitized in between uses. There is no charge to use the chairs, which are available on a first-come basis, from 8am to 4pm. The Movitac bike share app is needed in order to download the code to unlock the beach wheelchair storage lockers.
For more information about the beach wheelchairs, or assistance with getting the daily code, contact Cheryl Knight at (541) 996-1224 or cknight@lincolncity.org.
Says Ed Dreistadt, director of Explore Lincoln City. “We’re proud to improve the accessibility of our seven miles of beach to more guests through continued investment in mobility options.”
