New Glacier, Yellowstone and Grand Teton Wheelchair Access Guide Released
Appearances can be quite deceiving, especially in Glacier, Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. On the surface all three sites seem to be fraught with formidable natural obstacles that would exclude anybody with mobility issues; however upon closer examination a bevy of accessible trails, attractions and lodging options are revealed. And Candy B. Harrington highlights these offerings — and more — in her newest release, Barrier-Free Travel; Glacier, Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks for Wheelers and Slow Walkers.
This useful guidebook is chock full of access information, including:
- Accessible Trails and Attractions
- Photos and Access Specifics of All Accessible Park Lodgings
- Accessible Lodging Options in Gateway Communities
- Barrier-Free Campgrounds
- Accessible Bus and Boat Tours
- Special Access Passes and Discounts
- Shuttles to and in the Parks
- Insider Access Tips
Harrington’s new title also includes information on access upgrades in the parks, like the $19 million Jenny Lake Renewal Project. “Thanks to this ambitious project, a section of the lakeshore trail is now wide, level and nicely accessible,” says Harrington. “And wheelchair-users can easily roll aboard the accessible tour boats from the newly renovated dock.”
Access upgrades aren’t limited to Yellowstone either. “In Glacier National Park Xanterra has added some accessible Red Buses to their tour fleet, and the accessible multiuse trail in Grand Teton has been expanded,” notes Harrington. “I’m thrilled to be able to share these improvements with my readers,” she adds.
This inclusive title is part of Harrington’s national park series; and although it’s written for wheelchair-users and slow walkers, moms who have stroller-aged kids will also appreciate the access information in this guide. More access resources for some of America’s top national parks can also be found on Harrington’s Barrier-Free National Parks website at www.barrierfreenationalparks.com.
