Pittsburgh Nabs NEA Grant
The Greater Pittsburgh Arts council recently announced the receipt of a $35,000 Art Works grant from the National Endowment of the Arts (NEA), to support the “Increase Accessibility in Pittsburgh Arts and Culture” initiative. A national model of its kind, the initiative includes professional development, a peer network, an advisory committee, scholarships for conference attendance, resources, technical support and data collection. One part of the initiative is a workshop series designed to teach non-profit managers the best practices for ensuring accessibility for patrons, staff and artists with disabilities. The workshop will focus on assistive technology, community engagement, staff training and accessible design; and it will include a field trip to the Human Engineering Research Lab at Carnige Mellon University. The NEA received 1,474 eligible applications in the Art Works category, which offers grants to support the creation of art, public engagement with art, lifelong learning in the arts, and enhancement of the livability of communities through the arts.
