Rail Trails for Slow Walker
My husband has arthritis, and has problems walking a lot. He does not use a wheelchair or walker, but he just has to take things at his own pace. We both love to travel, and I’m hoping that you can suggest some things that we can see with a minimum of walking. He does ride a bicycle, so some level bike trails would be great for us too.
It’s hard to make a recommendation for your husband without knowing what his likes and interests are, but since you mentioned that he likes easy bicycle trails, I’m going to suggest Rail Trails. These multi-use trails are former (abandoned) rail corridors, and they’re located all over the U.S. Many are accessible because the railway grades can’t be too steep. They have a directory of all of their trails on their website at www.traillink.com. Each trail has a detailed description, and all of the wheelchair-accessible trails are clearly marked. I’m sure you’ll find something to your liking there, be it for an day trip or a week-long adventure.
