Take Amtrak to These Favorite National Parks
Although visiting a national park often makes a good road trip, sometimes it’s just not possible — or even practical — to drive. This is especially true if you want to do a fly-drive vacation, and you need a wheelchair-accessible rental van. Sometimes they aren’t just available, especially during peak travel seasons. Additionally the cost of these customized rentals may be prohibitive. There is however, another option — take Amtrak (www.amtrak.com/home.html). Not only are the trains and stations wheelchair-accessible, but many national parks also offer accessible tours and shuttles. So pack you bags and get ready to explore these favorite national parks via Amtrak.

Hop aboard Amtrak’s San Joaquins, then ride a YARTS shuttle to connect to Yosemite National Park. And once you’re in the park you can take the wheelchair-accessible Yosemite shuttle to all the popular sites, or book a day-long accessible bus tour.
Glacier National Park

Amtrak’s Empire Builder runs from Spokane to Chicago and stops at two stations in Glacier National Park. Accessible shuttle service is available from the stations to Lake McDonald Lodge, The Village Inn at Apgar and Glacier Park Lodge. The free Going-to-the-Sun Road shuttle — which operates in the summer — is also wheelchair-accessible.
Grand Canyon National Park

Last but not least in the Amtrak national park lineup, is Grand Canyon National Park. Just take the Southwest Chief to Flagstaff, and then hop on the Groome Transportation shuttle to Maswik Lodge on the South Rim. There’s accessible shuttle service to the most popular areas of the park, and a wheelchair-accessible bus tour is available along Desert View Road. There’s certainly no shortage of wheelchair-accessible activities in this scenic national park.
